Kim’s Personal Statement
Made from wire and beads, my pieces sparkle in the light, casting beautiful shadows and adding decoration to interiors and gardens. Inspiration comes from nature, where the bright colours I love are abundant and the linear structure of plants and animals are ideal for portrayal in wire. I am interested in recycling and try to use second hand materials where possible.
I bend and shape the wire by hand, joining it together by twisting. As do not use any templates or moulds, turning the linear form of wire into three-dimensional pieces offers a constant challenge. Many of the skills that I use in my current work were acquired on the BA hons degree in Design Crafts, which I completed in 1999 at Hereford College of Art and Design.
