More new arrivals - Alice Melvin

Alice Melvin is an illustrator and designer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her work is inspired by her love of paper, print and decorative arts. Animals, birds, pattern and text occur frequently in her work along with the odd teapot as well. Integral to a lot of her work is the making process and she loves working on products with an interactive element such as the ‘cut out and make’ cards and kits she has designed.
Counting Birds was a Scottish Book Trust Book of the Month and was recognised in the critics' choice in the Association of Illustrators Images 34 exhibition. In 2011 Alice was awarded a Booktrust Best New Illustrator Award designed to celebrate the rising talent in the field of illustration.
Working as a freelance illustrator Alice designs for a range of clients, as well as producing her own stationery range. In 2009 she was invited to exhibit and promote her work in Osaka, Japan at the annual Hankyu British Fair. Alice has also worked with Tate on accompanying ranges of children’s products.
Born in 1982, Alice grew up in the seaside town of Saltburn in the north east of England. After completing a Foundation Course at Cleveland College of Art and Design, she went on to study an illustration degree at Edinburgh College of Art graduating with first class honours in June 2004, and receiving the Andrew Grant Bequest for outstanding work in illustration.

Lucienne Day V & A Textile Cards

Art Angels, have produced a brilliant selection of cards using textile designs from the V & A archive.
Over the past few months Art Angels have been working with the Victoria and Albert Museum on a collection of products to tie in with their forthcoming British Design retrospective exhibition, which opens in March 2012.
They have been looking at 1950s textile designs, which they feel complement their series of images by contemporary printmakers
The museum approached Chris Cordingly from Art Angels in advance of this Spring’s exhibition at the V&A, British Design 1948–2012, an exhibition which links design through from the last Olympic games held here through to the forthcoming games this Summer. Recognised for their work with contemporary artists with stylistic links to "Festival of Britain” era, Art Angels are a natural choice of partner for the Museum.
The new cards include a group of furnishing fabrics by Lucienne Day and remind one of the importance of relationships between commissioning organisations (eg., Heal’s, British Celanese, Edinburgh Weavers, Liberty) and artists.
The collection of cards can be found here.

So What's New - Rob Ryan This Bell Will Ring

This Bell will ring when you take me in your arms and hold me
This Bell will ring when we get it all wrong
This Bell will ring when we make this world just slightly better
This Bell will ring when the leaves fall
This Bell will ring when we forget to remember
This Bell will ring when you hold a flower to my lips
This Bell will ring when we kiss goodnight
This bell will ring when from nothing something comes

and they can all be found here!
