From her workshop in Snowdonia, the Welsh Jewellery Designer, Mari Eluned has established a successful business creating unique Welsh Slate jewellery and contemporary pieces using natural materials. Her creative flair has proven extremely popular and by now she is selling all over Britain and overseas. Natural materials are combined with precious metal and transformed into delicate, tactile jewellery inspired by nature, agriculture and her Welsh roots. Mari creates each piece by hand and has a beautiful collection of necklaces, bracelets and earrings that are a pleasure to wear. She takes pride in the quality of the workmanship and the uniqueness of her designs.

Mari is from an agricultural background and grew up on a remote Welsh farm in Gwynedd. She had a natural creative talent from an early age which developed throughout her time at school and college and has ultimately become her career.
After graduating from Loughborough University in 2006, with a 1st Class BA Honours degree in Jewellery & Silversmithing, Mari set up her own workshop at her home in Mallwyd, Merionethshire. ‘Mari Eluned’ has since flourished into a successful business. Her designs, especially her Welsh Slate Jewellery have caught the eye of people all over Britain as well as overseas, customers who appreciate contemporary design; or for individuals who wants to wear and treasure a ‘little piece of Wales’. She continues to design and create unique jewellery inspired by her passion for nature, her surroundings and natural materials.

Handmade by Hayley is a fun and fresh jewellery label, creating vibrant, colourful and contemporary jewellery, which is crafted by hand in Corbridge, Northumberland.
Each piece is individually hand made to order, using only the brightest colours and most unusual beads. Gorgeous printed cottons from Liberty of London's tana lawn collection feature heavily in the range, to make their signature bow tie ribbons. Hayley loves to mix different colours and textures together, for a look that is a fresh, vibrant and truly individual.
Hayley Malcolm, the designer behind the range started designing and hand making the first Handmade by Hayley collection in July 2009. Hayley, who grew up in Lancashire, graduated with a BA(hons) degree in Fashion Design and Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University. She now works from her studio at home in Corbridge, Northumberland.
While studying she worked for various high street retailers, gaining experience in jewellery and accessories. Graduating in 2007, Hayley was immediately snapped up to work for Abercrombie and Fitch in America, gaining an insight into how a large brand is run, before returning to the UK to follow her dream.
With only a her savings, bags of enthusiasm and determination, Hayley launched her first collection for Handmade by Hayley in July 2009.

Sarah Campbell launched Mogwaii as a platform for her unique, innovative designs in 2003. Since then it has become a successful business selling to galleries, shops and interior designers throughout the world.

Born in Edinburgh in 1969, much of Sarah's childhood was spent on the Isle of Lismore on the West Coast of Scotland where her enduring love of textiles was born. “I have vivid memories of picking wool from fences and bringing it home to wash, card, and spin and making rag rugs on an old cart wheel we'd converted into a loom. Textiles have always been important to the women in my family: they are an outlet for our creativity while also providing for and nurturing those around us.'

Sarah studied textiles at Goldsmith's College, London where she worked predominantly with felt, exploring its potential as a medium for conceptual sculpture. Soon after graduating she set up a millinery business selling to Liberty's of London and exhibiting in galleries worldwide.

Then came Mogwaii which she launched at the Chelsea Craft Fair with a range of blinds exploring the interplay between felt and light. Cushions, throws and lampshades and later, fashion accessories, followed. Sarah is inspired by the fabrics themselves. ‘For as long as I remember I have been drawn to work with wool. It has such potential: it can be as tough as wood or soft and lace like. The more I work with it, the more I understand its sculptural and colour potential. New ideas constantly emerge as I work. I am equally inspired by the colours, light and flora of the Scottish countryside.”

Since its launch Mogwaii has become a thriving business, selling to Heals of London , The Sofa Workshop, Home Autour du Monde in Paris and the V&A. Sarah regularly exhibits Mogwaii Designs in various Galleries and shows her work alongside Europe 's best applied artists at the annual Chelsea Craft Fair, (now Origin).

During the last two years Sarah Campbell has worked extensively with The Sofa Workshop designing and creating cushions and, more recently, a set of designs for bespoke sofas.

As well as selling her interior and fashion accessories to shops, Sarah is also working on private commissions for blinds, screens and wall hangings, each created in collaboration with the client to suit the unique environment.

Katrin Moye is a nationally recognised award winning ceramic artist, specialising in decorative domestic slipware. Her work can be found in galleries all over the UK, and in major retail outlets such as Liberty London. Her pattern designs are based on memories of domestic items from her childhood in the 1970’s, such as picture books, soft furnishings and wallpaper.

These original card designs are made using pen and ink, water colour and collage. The ‘still life’ range is based on her handmade tableware collection, and the ‘garden’ collection is an adaptation of designs for a series of large scale platters. All cards are printed on 100% recycled board and are 14cm square and blank inside for your own message.

These beautiful bird cards are supplied flat with envelope and a message card, open the wings and tail and the bird will stand or fly!

Flight is a set of bird shaped greetings cards designed by Mark Hearld to fold out into a hanging decoration. The wings and tail are designed to fold open and these highly attractive birds are printed on all surfaces, so for this reason a separate message card is also included with each card. A small blue ribbon is also attached to enable the birds to be suspended.

Born in 1974, Mark studied illustration at Glasgow College of Art and then completed an MA in Natural History Illustration at the Royal College of Art.

Taking his inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside, Mark works across a number of mediums, producing limited edition lithographic and linocut prints, unique paintings, collages and hand-painted ceramics.

Insects – handmade ceramics

Insect vessels come in one of four ice-cream colours: red, yellow, green or blue. One of four insects may have alighted on each vessel: moth, butterfly, dragonfly or bee. Look out too for the additional mini creature trying to pass by unnoticed!

The work is made to retain strong traces of the hand making process: throwing spirals from fingers drawing clay up on the wheel, marks on the base from the wire that cut the pot free of the wheel, dents emphasising the soft state of the clay during the making process, and the sloping line of dip in the glaze bucket. The human energy that is invested in creating the vessel becomes encapsulated in the form

The insect designs, sketched by hand and printed into decals, were inspired by insects that came into Debbie's flat one summer. They remind her of the irrepressible energy of nature and draw attention to the exquisite detail of the small creatures that we share our world with.

Thrown in stoneware clay, the work is made to be used everyday. The range of mugs, bowls, jugs and dishes will enhance the experience of eating and drinking. All are suitable for the dishwasher but best not used in a microwave.

Anne Reeves -of Grace Designs, has created a range of stunning contemporary designs from Solid Sterling Silver. Her pieces are very tactile, using traditional techniques to produce exciting textures and effects. Anne works mainly with Sterling Silver, occasionally adding 24ct gold or resins for a splash of colour.

For her collections, her main influences are nature and the natural world – leaves, butterflies, lily pads and flowers all feature in her work. She does however enjoy creating designs that are more abstract, and her ‘Effervescent’ range is an example of this.

Elizabeth grew up in Ellesmere Port on the Wirral. She has studied and lived throughout the Midlands, working as a Freelance Web & Graphic Designer, Pattern Designer, gardener, hedgelayer and craft maker. She has been based in rural North Shropshire for the past 8 years.

Elizabeth's original pieces of sculptural greenwood furniture combine a knowledge of traditional rural crafts skills with contemporary design. She makes her furniture in woodlands using only hand tools, fresh timber and an eye for finding interesting natural shapes in the wood.

Joanna London Surface Designer

Joanna London is a Surface Designer graduating from the London College of Communication (previously the London College of Printing) in 2006 with a Foundation Degree in Surface Design passed with Distinction. The Surface Designer is concerned with 2D pattern and decoration, often working with repeat patterns for the production of textiles and wallpapers but able to apply decoration to practically any surface.

Joanna design surface decoration for ceramic tableware and apply this using a print technique.

Her designs evolve from drawings, paintings, collage, textile work, other scanned materials and digital photography. These images are scanned or downloaded into the computer and then manipulated using graphics programs to create designs which are applied to tableware.

Her tableware designs are digitally printed in ceramic inks to produce transfers which are then applied by hand to pre-glazed ceramic pieces. She uses fine bone china tableware principally sourced from the Stoke on Trent potteries. Once the transfer is applied, the piece is fired in her kiln. The printed designs become an integral part of the glaze allowing the tableware to be dishwasher and microwave proof.

MijMoj was established by Gafyn Owen in 2006 a passionate designer who graduated with a first class BA Hons design degree in 2001. MijMoj currently design and hand make a range of contemporary interior products and furniture items from their North Wales Studio / Workshop. MijMoj have developed a range of playful yet functional products that make the user want to engage and interact with the products, making mundane household items interesting. The range uses predominately hardwoods but combining metal, glass and plastic for aesthetic and functional benefit create must have items for any design conscious home.

Integral to all of Alison's work is her passion for the handmade and hand printed. Something which lasts and can be treasured like a handmade and hand printed item is more relevant than ever at the moment and we like the idea that these hand printed wares will be distributed with love, affection and friendship. Alan’s top tips to creating your fantasy garden :

To add to the magical mystery of your fantasy garden, add some sculpture.

A piece of sculpture draws the eye and creates a real focal point for a garden.

Alan Titchmarsh and Matt James look at ideas for sculpture in your garden...

Sculptures can be used to create a 'full stop' at the end of a long avenue or to entice or lead a person toward it and, depending on where it's placed, manipulating a person around the garden, taking them on a journey from one garden room to the next, working hard for its space.

Remember to keep the sculpture in proportion to its surroundings. The best way to do this is to work out the required size of the sculpture by using different size cardboard boxes.

When satisfied with the size, measure the boxes and take the measurements with you when going to choose your sculpture.

Once bought, it is important to place it carefully.

Gail Kelly qualified from the University of Ulster with a B.A. Honours in Fine Art Printmaking and an M.F.A. from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, U.S.A. She returned home to Northern Ireland from America in 1992 and now lives and works in the countryside near Belfast. Gail's original prints have been exhibited widely both at home and abroad and are included in many public and private collections.

Gail is best known for her range of linen prints and greetings cards sold under the trade name Algan Arts.
Since receiving a grant from the Creative Industries Innovation Fund via the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Gail has been developed a complimentary range of home and lifestyle textiles which embodies her distinctive and well recognised graphic style and draws on her experience as a printmaker and illustrative artist.

Gail designs and prints the initial linocut motifs by hand using her Victorian cast iron press in her studio in the countryside of Northern Ireland. Screen-printed and manufactured in the UK, they make a beautiful addition to any home and lifestyle!

Craig Fellows is an award-winning and successful textile designer with a passion for colour and illustration, combining his fine art talents with his love of fashion prints and textiles. Using traditional, contemporary and digital printing techniques, Craig transforms his stunning illustrations into beautiful fashion and interior pieces. Each piece is designed, made and hand-finished by Craig. Every piece in Craig’s collection is completely unique and can truly not be found on the high street.

Craig graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Fashion and during his studies his work was regularly exhibited and selected to represent his University in a number of competitions, including Clothes Show Live and New Designers and Graduate Fashion Week; where his collection was shown in the Gala show for the Zandra Rhodes Textile Award. Craig has also received several industry awards, such as a Society of Dyers and Colourists Award, in recognition of his distinct and fresh use of colour, and the Leigh Cooke Colour in Design Award. With strong links with fashion, Craig has been able to work on exciting live projects with the British Leather Council, Drapers and Textile Lecture Days alongside Zandra Rhodes.

Dawn Critchley designs and illustrates from her home studio in the lovely Cheshire countryside, creating lively drawings inspired by a desire to illustrate a ‘Free Range’ lifestyle for some very deserving creatures!

‘Growing up I have fond memories of my Dads Bantam hens and their complete and utter ‘freedom’ of our garden, pecking, scratching, laying eggs in all sorts of places and eating all of our flowers! As a child they were great inspiration for my drawings, a love of which has never left me!

Her product collection reflects rustic country style to compliment modern country living. She has a great selection of British made products including hand cast and hand decorated earthenware made in Stoke-on-Trent, Hand printed tea towels and Note cards.

Jane Booth makes colourful earthenware tableware. Each piece is hand thrown and individually decorated. Her pottery designs are inspired by traditional ceramics and textiles, but also have a contemporary feel.

Jane’s Artist Statement

I think the small pleasures of life should be treasured. For me one aspect of this involves using everyday items that are made in mouth-watering colours and make me smile – such as my pink ‘bejewelled’ Russian doll key ring and my purple leather satchel. For this reason I love to make pots suitable for everyday use that is practical, pretty and unique.

All my pottery is thrown on a wheel and then decorated with coloured slips, a food safe glaze and ceramic transfers. I use mostly terracotta clay, as I like the warmth and richness of the colour and the effect that is created when the clay breaks through the softly coloured slips.

I am inspired by the colours and patterns of some of my favourite things – ranging from vintage fabric, china and paintings (particularly from the eighteenth century) to ice cream and macaroons!

Charlotte Hupfield is a Ceramic Designer/Maker based in Northamptonshire, UK. The ceramic items she creates are all individual one off pieces, handmade by herself in her workshop.

Charlotte produces a range of contemporary vases, bowls, sculptural vessels, clocks, coasters, wall plaques, hanging decorations and accessories all for the home and garden, which are influenced by her observations from the natural world. Charlotte's work can be used for decoration or function, and is suitable for interior and exterior use and display.

Charlotte's aim is to offer one of a kind ceramic art that is creative and unique. Her decorative ceramic pieces are commonly displayed in the home or garden, exhibited in galleries or used as functional items.

Charlottes’s Artist Statement:

My main construction method is hand building. Decorative details include adding tiny flecks of glass or chunks of leather-hard clay into the surface when the clay is soft, as well as painting decorative coloured slips onto my own handmade textured printing blocks, which I then roll onto sheets of clay before using to construct forms.

Most of my ceramic pieces are sprayed and finished in a barium glaze, and fired in an electric kiln up to 1260°C.

My mission is to offer one of a kind ceramic art that is creative and unique. My decorative ceramic pieces are commonly displayed in the home or garden, exhibited in galleries or used as functional items.
Having always been attracted to natural surroundings and organic surfaces, I am genuinely drawn to textures within the world around us. My work explores the landscape and the detail of many different natural surfaces.

Whilst concealed amongst these surroundings, I feel relaxed and at home. I find it amazing to see the changes in rocks and coves caused by weathering and erosion from the sea, bumpy and colourful linear patterns found within fields and hills, and the surfaces in nature where no two marks are ever the same – it is this particular aspect that my ceramics connects to.

Before constructing the ceramic forms, I produce mixed-media drawings and prints, which inform the surfaces of the clay. My interest and passion for ceramics is growing rapidly the more I experience new ideas, and for every piece of work that I make. I am fascinated by the qualities of the material and I like to keep my work full of excitement. I relish in constructing an object using my hands to thoroughly engage with what I am making.
